Failure 😳

Something we all tend to avoid but something we all need!

It can be hard sometimes when we set goals and they don't turn out the way we'd like, but it's the process of failing that makes us better and if we can change our relationship with failure then training gets so so much easier and even life!

My relationship with failure is improving and I do believe it's focussing on the process of getting better and knowing no race/result is final, you will get more chances!

Hyrox Glasgow 2025 ✅

There's so many things I learned this race, but the main thing I want to say right now is a massive thanks to @rosahare @pavmorytko @kaedain_mccrostie and the best woman I know @roxanneblzn ❤️

Without the support I had it would have been so much harder and I'm so lucky to have them 🙏

The main take away? Running is the best time saver for sure.

I had a game plan and stuck to it but unfortunately my hamstrings gave out after the lunges.

I was unwell with a nasty tooth abscess/infection a week or so ago but I want to take this on the chin and own it.

I walked away feeling a bit disappointed as I wanted that sub 1:15 real bad but I know now where I can improve.

*Worth mentioning I also DNF'd the wall balls due to my hammys fukin up*

1) Less treadmill running & more outside
2) More anaerobic erg work (ski/row etc)
3) Wall balls- lots and compromised
4) More threshold work + more Vo2 max work
5) Just do more races haha

Onto June and Spartan race Scotland ✅

Hyrox Glasgow 2025 ✅

There's so many things I learned this race, but the main thing I want to say right now is a massive thanks to @rosahare @pavmorytko @kaedain_mccrostie and the best woman I know @roxanneblzn ❤️

Without the support I had it would have been so much harder and I'm so lucky to have them 🙏

We got @kate__hare with us today 🏃‍♀️💨

Kate's going to be heading back up north soon after she's done with Uni.

I just wanted to say a massive thanks to everyone that has supported me last year in starting up my coaching 🙏♥️

It's been a very tough but enjoyable year with lots of sacrifices such as time with family/friends, races missed and even compromising my own health (bad idea btw).

What they are: Short periods of time where you run at a faster pace than your 5k speed.

What they do: Gets your body used to clearing lactate and mentality prepares you to run at faster speeds 💨💨

What they look like: 12 x 400m at 9/10 RPE with 2-4 minutes rest in between reps.

And yeh they suck but they work!!!

2. TEMPO RUNS

What they are: longer periods of time where you run at your desired race pace: perfect for 10k+.

What they do: They also help with lactate clearance, muscular endurance and again the mental aspect.

What they look like: 2 mile warm up- 4 miles at race pace- 2 miles cooldown. Overtime you will increase the tempo part depending on your race distance.

2. Gym Work (Isos & Plyos)

What they are:

Isometrics: Holds targeting running specific muscles such as the soleus (Calf muscles).

Plyometrics: Springy explosive movements targeting joins and muscles used while running.

What they do: Both help with injury prevention if loaded correctly, they can also increase tendon stiffness which helps correlate positively into running performance (stiffer = more springy).

What they look like:

Isos: Lunge Hold / Maximal Knee Drive / Copenhagen Plank (Hold for 10-30 seconds each side, repeat 2-3 times)

Plyos: Deficit Box Jumps/ Single Leg Strides/ Hamstring Tantrums (12-14 Reps, again 2-3 time's).

As always guys, be specific to you. Everyone's needs are different. Consistency is and will forever be king so pick what you like and stick with it!

Were back running injury free!! @kate__hare 🎉🎉

Today Kate and I pushed the boat out to see what she could handle and she managed her first 3 hour run with over 2000ft of elevation!... This is the longest run to date after she came to me a few months back with pain in her hip.

Not only is Kate now running pain free but shes on track to run her fastest marathon this September

Kirsty is a long distance runner who is suffering from low back which sucks!

She has been cleared to exercise and together we are working on strengthening the surrounding areas, while working on running specific muscle groups in order to help make her a robust runner 🏃💨

Now these exercises arent special as back pain is so multifaceted but with careful management of resistance exercises that can aid in the functionality of her running, and careful load management I'm posative we will see her smashing those marathons again in no time 💪

Euans a plant based body builder who also works long hours in hospitality so most of his work consists of-

1. Controlling the eccentric part of the movement to promote muscle gain

2.Low volume, high intensity: With Euans job and long hours we make sure he goes close to and beyond failure in his 2 sets per exercise he does, but we don't push the weekly volume too high so he can recover properly 👍

3.All about that lengthned position: Loads of good research out that the lengthned part of any exercise may induce the most hypertrophy, so we make sure to always put an emphasis on that part... But we don't neglect the shortened part either ✅

4.Protein intake: Yep he's vegan and yes he still hits his macros.. It does take more planning but it can be done 🥕

VO2 Max is thrown around a lot but all in all, as beginner-intetmefiate runners, there's no real need to focus on it 👍

Speed work or HIIT training does help VO2 Max but again, unless we are competing it's not necessary!

Your watch can't tell you your accurate VO2 max even if its a good one! 🫵

She's a rugby athlete and has been given 3 sessions a week to do, all specific to her goals and needs.

Here's a few things I had to take into account.
- Aesthetic goals
- Work life
- Rugby performance
- Injury "Pre-hab" (shouler, Klknee, back)
- Current training level (defines what complex lifts we choose and weekly volume)

I've not been posting for a while as it's study season.

So I went in today and after getting the best motivation from @lizaseibak.fit1 I decided to go for a PR.

Honestly so chuffed with the 120kg for 4 and 130kg for 1 as I've mostly been doing running recently 🏃.

Not bad for a skinny plant based runner boi. 🏋‍♂️

However I have been involving a lot of pause work, incuking paused deadlifts and think this could be the reason I managed that weight.

150 kg next year?? 🤔

Bit of a technique day!

I've only started doing clean and jerks but I'm loving learning how to do them, gonna make it my goal to get the technique dialed before the new year and start implementing them into my plan!

The clean and jerk motion is a fantastic power movement to have in any routine, it works the whole posterior chain (calves to upper back) as well as the quads, shoulders and the core.

I highly recommend this exercise for anyone that does explosive actions in sport, such as Rugby rucking.

Really enjoying this so far so will keep you guys updated with the progress.

It also goes without saying my form is ass at the moment...

What a day, I fininally got round to running up to the Pentlands, south of Edinburgh!

The wind was absolutely howling up top and the climb was brutel as somehow I had the wind in my face the whole way.

The whole trip was only around 10 miles which was ideal, took around 2hours with some hefty power hiking needed at the end.

My photography skills are shite, the pics don't do the view justice.

I'll definitely be back there!
