Cycling more than 12 hours a week at the age of 70 is amazing in its self, so when she asked me to coach her to help her improve her cycling I honestly wondered how much better she could get?

I didn't want to race at all, this summer has been one of my worst for training: Injuries, stress, mental health, diet etc etc....

I'll maybe address the above in another video but this post has to go out to my boy @sam_brooke2000

Not only did he carry me on the day but he got us both through towards a very respectable sub 1 hour that put us in the top 10% for doubles that weekend. 👏

I reckon this was also harder than Hyrox, definitely recommend if you get the chance!

Bad news first, ya boy has a grade 2 hamstring tear so I've been away from running, I had to call off the Spartan race last week and will be getting back to work in about 4 weeks 🤞

Good thing is it's given me plenty of time to make silly videos like this & sign up for races later in the year!

Here's what we have to look forward to:

Aug: Hybrid games (Newcastle) doubles with @sam_brooke2000

Oct: Hyrox (Birmingham) Singles & hopefully a doubles!!

Dec: Hyrox (London) Singles & Doubles again with Sammy boy!

As well as this I'll be doing a couple coaching courses to help you guys!

Today I failed a workout 🥳

Actually I stopped half way through

I think it's important to post this because so many of us need to know that this ☝️☝️ is all part of the process.

Next time I'll smash this workout, or I'll readjust and scale up to it again.

Either way I still attempted it.

I've been feeling shit all week and overworked for a while now, so it figures this workout sucked.

But I still tried it!!

That's always my message to clients or friends that no matter how you did in the workout, it's absolutely fine to fail.

What matters is that you keep pitching up every week even when you feel crappy

Today I failed a workout 🥳

Actually I stopped half way through

I think it's important to post this because so many of us need to know that this ☝️☝️ is all part of the process.

Next time I'll smash this workout, or I'll readjust and scale up to it again.

Either way I still attempted it.

I've been feeling shit all week and overworked for a while now, so it figures this workout sucked.

But I still tried it!!

That's always my message to clients or friends that no matter how you did in the workout, it's absolutely fine to fail.

What matters is that you keep pitching up every week even when you feel crappy

And side note: Remember to program de-loads for mental burn out as well 👍

Failure 😳

Something we all tend to avoid but something we all need!

Hyrox Glasgow 2025 ✅

There's so many things I learned this race, but the main thing I want to say right now is a massive thanks to @rosahare @pavmorytko @kaedain_mccrostie and the best woman I know @roxanneblzn ❤️

Without the support I had it would have been so much harder and I'm so lucky to have them 🙏

The main take away? Running is the best time saver for sure.

I had a game plan and stuck to it but unfortunately my hamstrings gave out after the lunges.

I was unwell with a nasty tooth abscess/infection a week or so ago but I want to take this on the chin and own it.

I walked away feeling a bit disappointed as I wanted that sub 1:15 real bad but I know now where I can improve.

*Worth mentioning I also DNF'd the wall balls due to my hammys fukin up*

1) Less treadmill running & more outside
2) More anaerobic erg work (ski/row etc)
3) Wall balls- lots and compromised
4) More threshold work + more Vo2 max work
5) Just do more races haha

We got @kate__hare with us today 🏃‍♀️💨

Kate's going to be heading back up north soon after she's done with Uni.

It's been a very tough but enjoyable year with lots of sacrifices such as time with family/friends, races missed and even compromising my own health (bad idea btw).

What they are: Short periods of time where you run at a faster pace than your 5k speed.

What they do: Gets your body used to clearing lactate and mentality prepares you to run at faster speeds 💨💨

What they look like: 12 x 400m at 9/10 RPE with 2-4 minutes rest in between reps.

And yeh they suck but they work!!!

2. TEMPO RUNS

What they are: longer periods of time where you run at your desired race pace: perfect for 10k+.

What they do: They also help with lactate clearance, muscular endurance and again the mental aspect.

What they look like: 2 mile warm up- 4 miles at race pace- 2 miles cooldown. Overtime you will increase the tempo part depending on your race distance.

2. Gym Work (Isos & Plyos)

What they are:

Isometrics: Holds targeting running specific muscles such as the soleus (Calf muscles).

Plyometrics: Springy explosive movements targeting joins and muscles used while running.

What they do: Both help with injury prevention if loaded correctly, they can also increase tendon stiffness which helps correlate positively into running performance (stiffer = more springy).

What they look like:

Isos: Lunge Hold / Maximal Knee Drive / Copenhagen Plank (Hold for 10-30 seconds each side, repeat 2-3 times)

Plyos: Deficit Box Jumps/ Single Leg Strides/ Hamstring Tantrums (12-14 Reps, again 2-3 time's).

As always guys, be specific to you. Everyone's needs are different. Consistency is and will forever be king so pick what you like and stick with it!

Today Kate and I pushed the boat out to see what she could handle and she managed her first 3 hour run with over 2000ft of elevation!... This is the longest run to date after she came to me a few months back with pain in her hip.

Not only is Kate now running pain free but shes on track to run her fastest marathon this September
